Special business summit and Indian Awards 2019 nominations launched

Gurinder Chadha OBE, Rolls Royce and Energy Pro all have one thing in common. Each won the prestigious Indian Awards in 2018, and it is now your chance to nominate who you think should be recognised for their outstanding contribution to arts, culture, business and trade between the UK, EU and India.

The invitation-only awards ceremony and gala dinner will take place on 29 May 2019 at the Houses of Parliament. Speaking on the day the nominations were opened for the third annual Indian Awards, The Lord Patel of Bradford OBE, Chairman of India Business Group said, “There’s never been a better time to recognise the efforts of outstanding individuals, organisations and enterprises who have worked over the years to strengthen relations between the UK and India. While most of us are focussed on Brexit, UK and India are quietly getting on and doing business deals which create jobs, grow their economies and cement that special relationship which has existed for decades. I would encourage you to put forward the names of those who have inspired you, championed cooperation and collaboration between the UK and India”.

The UK’s exports to India in the year to November 2018 were up by 27.3%, amounting to £5.4 billion, despite Brexit uncertainty.  According to the Office for National Statistics, India was among the top two non EU markets where U.K. exports grew during the year, demonstrating the potential for greater volumes of bilateral trade in goods and services between the two nations.

The event is a special initiative to recognise those who keep the UK-India special relationship alive and prosperous. It is organised and hosted by the India Business Group (IBG), a leading business advisory consultancy working in the UK, EU and India markets.

The main objectives of the initiative are to showcase success stories, inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs and promote greater flows of business, trade, and investment between the UK, EU and India markets.  The high level function will bring together business leaders, senior officials, policy makers, thought leaders and prominent members of the Indian community, as well as influencers from across the UK, India and globally.

For the first time, IBG will be hosting a business summit on the same day as the awards. The summit will provide an exclusive platform for giving insights on investment opportunities and business growth for SME’s, domestic, foreign investors and global entrepreneurs.

A key partner for the business summit will be Hampshire County Council, representing the most export intensive county in England. Commenting on Hampshire’s collaboration with IBG, Councillor Roy Perry, Leader of Hampshire County Council said, “It is critical for key parts of the UK economy such as Hampshire to diversify our export markets and continue to attract foreign direct investment. India is recognised as a key market for our business community, especially in sectors such as marine and maritime, and we are also home to many significant Indian owned businesses such as SMR Automotive and Gateway Technolabs. We therefore see the summit in May as a key step in further developing a longer term, mutually beneficial relationship with IBG and with India.”

This year, IBG has introduced the ‘Global Game Changers Awards’, a new category.  This is an international award open to an individual based anywhere in the world, who has contributed to globalising India in any particular field.

Awards’ founder, Amarjit Singh, India Business Group’s Chief Executive Officer, an established thought leader on UK-India commercial affairs and special adviser for India to the University of Southampton said, “Irrespective of whether Brexit becomes a reality, the bond between Britain and India, the world's fastest growing major economy, has never been more important. Our inaugural business summit comes at a time when global engagement is vital.  We believe this summit will give us important insights, create events and timely opportunities to develop deeper links and partnerships with India.”

The winners of each category will be chosen by a panel of judges. You can nominate your choice by going to the awards website: http://www.theindianawards.com.
