  • Posted

The India Business Group (IBG) was delighted to continue its strategic collaboration and advisory work with The Legal 500 for the Indian market for the second consecutive year.  The GC Powerlist India Teams was officially unveiled at a prestigious dinner function held at the Taj Mahal Hotel in New Delhi on 10 November 2017.

The selected in-house teams joined the elite global club of GC’s following a comprehensive process conducted by The Legal 500 over many months of collating nominations and extensive research. Officially introduced by David Goulthorpe, Managing Director of The Legal 500 series, the prestigious global publication recognised the most influential and innovate in-house corporate legal teams working in India.

The in-house legal community continues to make a significant contribution to India’s economic growth story. In line with India’s increasing influence on World markets and global business, the role of GC’s is changing.  As well as providing solutions to complex legal issues, they are playing more important business roles, and becoming involved in advising on wider areas such as procurement, policy making and international strategy. Highlighting the very best in-house corporate teams in India, the initiative was supported by CMS, Luthra & Luthra, Blackstone Chambers and Vahura. The evening provided an excellent networking opportunity to meet with professional peers, exchange ideas, best practices, and discuss the future role of GC’s in this fast-developing market.

Represented by IBG’s Chief Executive Officer, Amarjit Singh, who was one of the two UK lawyers to accompany former Prime Minister David Cameron to India as part of his significant trade delegation visit to India of 2013, stated “We have enjoyed supporting The Legal 500 team and advising on key strategic matters in the Indian market”. During the course of the visit, we interacted with some of India’s leading law firms and met with corporate leaders and relevant stakeholders who were all upbeat about the continued innovation and greater levels of M&A activity emanating from the World’s leading economies.

We also participated in the Leadership Summit on Reforms in the Indian Legal Services Sector which was hosted by the Indian National Bar Association and India’s Ministry of Commerce & Industry. The stimulating Summit brought together officials, leading practitioners, opinion formers, and legal experts who exchanged views on key current topics such as Make in India, International Arbitration, and Liberalisation. We extend our hearty congratulations to all of the GC Teams included and wish them every success for the future.  The select group of in-house teams who made the top 100 this year can be found at the following link: https://www.legal500.com/gc-powerlist/india-teams-2017/

Amarjit Singh commented: “We are pleased to support The Legal 500 in our capacity as Knowledge Partner in India for the second year running. The IBG is keen to work with internationally recognised law firms and businesses to enhance strategic collaborations and partnerships in and with India”.

David Goulthorpe, Managing Director of The Legal 500 series stated:“I am delighted the India Business Group is continuing to work with The Legal 500 as our Knowledge Partner for India.  Following the outstanding success of our inaugural General Counsel Powerlist: India in 2016, we are pleased to be returning to New Delhi to recognise India’s most innovative in-house legal teams and further develop our foothold in one of the World’s fastest growing major economies”
